Has anyone tried one of these?  Thomann is currently knocking them out at a rather tempting 47 EUR:

It's a nice pedal. Not a load of volume till you crank the gain up but at 47 euros it would be churlish no to.
You can never have too many drive pedals.

So I ordered mine on the day @djspecialist posted this.
    It's here already (I ordered at 10pm!).
Its fucking brilliant. For £50 I feel like I have robbed someone. Genuinely blown away by this pedal.
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

  • I need another dirt pedal like I need a hole in my head but just out of curiosity, is it obviously comparible to other dirt pedals? The youtube clips sound nice and it seems not ro be tubescreamer based.

Just out of curiosity you understand?

Nope, at all interested. No GAS here etc etc...

so how you using it then?   as a booster or a light/medium overdrive.  does it stack well?

I'd be interested in hearing how you compare it with the Hudson Broadcast.  Mine (Peach 24V magenta dual switch) is almost always on - so I'm interested in other pedals which might complement it in some way.

I've just ordered one too, inevitably.  Absolutely no objective need for another drive pedal, and yet at checkout I seriously considered getting two.  I am unwell.

How do you have the gain set on your broadcast?
I have mine at 12 o'clock. Which gives me a light sparkle and a bit of drive when I dig in.
I find the Emma pedal has a lot more dynamic response.
I love both equally though. Love both sides of the broadcast, from sparkle to hooligan and I love what the Emma does.

Thomann's website is useless, no clue what it's supposed to do or sound like, bit rubbish if you've never heard of the thing.  So is it like an SD-1 or something?

  • I had a bit of time to try out the pedal last night. It's very good! The saturation control is brilliant for flavouring the drive & anything from clean to almost fuzzy tones. I feel it'll need a bit of time to get used to it but I am impressed!

I tend to have all four knobs around the 9 - 11 o'clock mark.  Like you, I aim for almost clean when played lightly (using humbuckers).  I have fiddled with the internal trimmers though - so the position of the external gain knob may not tell the whole story.

Reading the comments on here, I do slightly wish I'd gone for an Emma before Thomann apparently sold out.  That said, I have a Liquid Sunshine incoming which I think may be in the same ballpark, so I should be pretty well sorted for low-gain gritty drives :)
