Some species of MIDI synth sorcery, I'd wager.  Best left to necromancers and their ilk.

    Wow. Is that the prototype?

(It's a Beetle Quantar MIDI controller, killed off after Yamaha claimed a patent on the technology.)

Pretty scarce in the UK, I'd say. I have only ever seen them as photographs in a Craig Anderton book. There ought to be a box of electronical gubbins to go with the guitar controller.

I love the way the back panel perfectly captures that "knackered old 1980s games console" look.

Thought I remembered seeing a video of one of these at some point......and here it is:

although this one looks slightly different so there must be at least 2 in existence.

the double act in the video are the same team from the alesis sr16 video manual i learned the basics of that from. they're everywhere (like dog hair).

that ambient noodling at 2m20s ish sounds like the intro noise to dire straits 'money for nothing'. maybe that's random coincidence or maybe mister knobbler once dabbled with.

and now for six months trying to make sense of a manual written by robots for robots.
you're like one of those extreme amazon adventurers who constantly have to learn arcane dialects that only six people on the planet ever actually speak. masochist!
