Hi everyone,

I saw a similar thread on another site and it got me playing some chords that I hadn't come across before.

Just post a chord (or multiples) that you are currently finding most satisfying.

To kick us off, this one is simple, but I'm finding it really satisfying:

Eadd9

E - 0
A - 2
D - 4
G - 1
B - 0
E - 0

    In a similar vein, a lovely rich Emaj7: 022444.

  • I'm enjoying open string suspended notes at the moment, mostly alternating between the following two chords

    Dadd9 xx0770
    To
    Aadd9 x07600

And back again. Open strings to get the added 9th on each really ring through nicely
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

  • worth also checking out @bigjon's chord of the week threads

My own favourite is still the half diminished chord with root on 5, voiced R b5 b7 b3, don't play strings 6 & 1.
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

it is not about one chord for me - it is about finding so many inversions of it that can enrich the song and your playing

take the simple B minor for the 'Thrill has gone' - find 2/3/4 inversions of it to enrich the song when you play it, often 3 or 4 note chords only - Piano plays are full of this - then add a 6th, 7th or 9th as required - helps to make the chord groove into a melodic phrase in its own right

The "Zoot Allures" chord. Or Emaj13 if you prefer:

    E - 0
    A - 11
    D - 11
    G - 11
    B - 12
    E - 11

    I like A.

It's no nonsense and gets the job done.

Checking in the odd D or even E takes it to a whole new level.

Still doing battle with *the* Purple Rain chord.  Believe it's an E flat add 9 - there's far easier fudges but this is the way Wendy Melvoin played it in the Purple Rain film and on the record, and it's the way I want to play it 'right'.

    E - X
    A - 6
    D - 8
    G - 10
    B - 8
    E - 6

How does one actually play that?

Never mind, I got it. Feels a bit awkward though.

Did she actually play that b flat on the high E string?  Don't remember that being there, and losing it might make the chord easier to play.

sorts the men from the boys.......
Can see this turning into a pissing contest with people finding the most ridiculous and contorted stretches that some poor suckers are going to try and dislocate their wrist over trying to form it

Admittedly, the one I posted isn't one I actually play on guitar often, it's just one of history's most famous unusual chords. It's not difficult to play on guitar though.
