NAD - a week later

Having owned one of these many years ago and rashly sold it, Ive been keeping an eye out for one 2nd hand for a while. This cropped up. Its the amplifier part of the Rivera R55-12 combo turned into a head by Zilla.

Unfortunately, i don't have a cab for it yet but will be ordering one from Hoffnine (closer to home) very soon. A quick test when i picked it up (from a very nice chap called Adam) confirmed my distant memory. Cracking gainy sounds, sprangy reverb and cleans on the softer side of crystaline. When i get more time to play with it, I'll maybe post some more.

Cheers - it's a perfect size for lugging around, though it occurred to me that offsetting the handle a little would make it balance more easily, with the heavy transformer otherwise tipping it to one side.

I had the R55 combo a few years back. Great gigging amp. Give Fender-ish and Marshall-ish flavours and the boost works well for solos.

It’s funny I think we must have similar tastes. Before it went all Budda/Thornton in my world I was all about the Rivera’s. I had a Clubster 45, an R30, and a Chubster 40.

Derailing my own thread slightly, how did you find the tone of the different Rivera's?

And Thornton-wise, I find that I'm using the schizoid channel most, and whilst can't really get a sprangly clean tone with it, it has the most response to guitar-volume control Ive ever played. At some point, Andy is going to sort out a matching cab to go with my combo
