ZVex SHO Wiring - wire adrift help

Hey Guys

My ZVex SHO seemed to go 'open circuit' on me and upon opening up there's a red wire adrift ...very obviously! I have no clue other than a very open guess based upon the length and general orientation that it should be soldered to the input jack - see my guess here.....am I correct and anything to look out for when I get someone to solder it back up?

Edit: Upon looking for myself, that doesn't appear to be the correct tag......duh.....still open to very knowledgeable help here

Pretty sure that should go to the PCB. Possibly next to the yellow wire.

That’s the +9V wire from the battery clip, and I agree, it’s almost certainly going to the pcb. Unless it should be connected to the switched input jack?

Edit: just checked some schematics, pedals with switched input jacks have the +9V going to the pcb. Is there a legend on the pcb saying 9V or V+?

No, the black wire from the battery clip is going to the jack socket to do the switching, so this red wire must go to somewhere on the PCB.

Thanks for your input and interest chaps....based on F/A knowledge and guesswork, I'ma thinking it goes on J11...but there are other tags with no connection. How can I turn this lucky guess (hah!) into reality????

Found this picture of the insides of a ZVEX SHO, does indeed show the red wire next to the yellow one, BUT the insides do look a little different to yours

Yup @PVO_Dave ....that looks closer to it. It's the 3PDT switch in the centre that's different. Thanks for looking and posting.

I've posted a message to Zach who I hope will confirm it finally.

Anyone close to Oxford good with a low power soldering iron confident on pcb's?

    No problem, sadly even on the largest image size its quite hard to make out the numbering: https://www.flickr.com/photos/terekhova/7378086260/sizes/o/ ;

J8 looks like a possibility, in that it looks like something was attached to it, but I can't see anything on the other side of the board.

I'm in Northampton with a soldering iron, if that's any help.

If it's any help, this is what my 2000 SHO looks like with the back popped off.

Just had a reply from ZVex to say the red wire needs to be soldered to J8.....mystery solved and now looking for the Phantom Solderer....... ;)

Sorry to jump in on this thread but as it seems you've finished with your issue, hopefully you don't mind :)  a question for @Adam_MD and @Philtre (amongst others!):  I notice in the pics above that ZVex seem to rely on the enclosure as the ground for the jacks - i.e. he hasn't soldered a wire to the sleeve tag.  I noticed that this could be done during the first few pedal builds I did, but all the layouts I had showed the off board wiring with wires connecting the ground tags.  Is there any benefit in still connecting them, e.g. a more 'reliable' ground connection, or can I just leave them off if I'm using standard non-insulated jacks?

I ground one jack to the circuit then use the enclosure to ground the other.  I’ve never had a problem doing it that way.  If it’s a powdercoated enclosure I use a reamer on the holes for the jacks to ensure a good metal to metal contact.

I always use ground wires as per the offboard wiring on tagboardeffects. Belt and braces approach, I guess.
