Headstock Decals.

What's Hot
Hi all, I was wondering what is the best source for custom made decals, ( not major brands). I’m in the middle of a build, and would like to finish it off with something personalised.

  • Rothko & Frost do excellent work.
I THINK they're on here somewhere...
    @rothko perhaps??

The hardest part is coming up with a logo/design.

Watched a youtube video this morning where a chap printed his logo on normal a4 paper and stuck clear tape over it and rubbed it with the edge of scissor handles, soaked for 5 minutes until he could take the paper off the used the clear tape as a decal which had picked up the ink, looked pretty groovy am thinking of trying it on my 335 copy.

I got him to do a decal for my Squier Precision Special. Although it used a standard template, I wanted it done slightly differently, which he did any no extra cost. The decals (he includes a second as a spare) looked great and went on without a fuss.
    Recommended.

My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.

You can buy water transfer paper. Print onto it with an ordinary ink jet printer, and give it a coat of spray varnish to prevent the ink washing off when you soak it.

Rothko are amazing, I had a few Westone logos done in gold and silver, I'd only used home printed decal paper before and the difference is astonishing.
plus they keep a record logged of your work so a reprint in the future is just a few clicks away.
    outstanding!

  • I had a bad experience with R and F a while back, ordered a 60s 0 bass logo, could’ve hand drawn a more realistic one. Thanks for all the input guys, looks like I’m going to go with guitar decals. Co.uk

  • Can you true oil over these without any issue?

Not done it, but I'd think it'd be better on top of dried TruOil, then a very quick/light spray of a fixer or nitro varnish

R&F recommend lacquer and say not to apply to an oiled surface so I presume oiling over would be a bad idea.

I've done this. I filled in the blanks on the back of the decal with silver paint pen before applying it to the headstock. Looks ok in this picture, but possibly lifting a bit now:

I might try it again with some laser-printable decal paper.
