got the call today, she’s been on life support for the last 3 weeks and her body gave out today, lung, liver and kidney cancer and COPD. IM in Spain  at the mo and it looks like she’ll be buried tomorrow. She lives in Turkey and they don’t hang around there. I’m going on the 1st Sept. I was hoping she’d hold out until then as the docs said it could be days or months. A life long smoker and drinker who wasn’t interested in giving any of it up despite our protests as kids. Ah well what’s done is done.
So's my Dad. Last night. 8.15. Fucker ain't it?
So sorry to hear - My condolences

Deepest sympathies. Lost my mum in January after a 4 year Alzheimer’s stretch..
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

Sad news. It sound like your mum lived life on her terms. Admire her for that but it's tough for those left behind. My condolences to you and your family.

i don't really know what to say, and don't want to intrude on your personal grieving with a long post of advice or opinions when i don't know you or your situation.

all i would say is that if there was a good bond between you and your mother, then regardless of any geographical distance, that would have been a constant comfort to her and a source of great pride and happiness for her at any time.
the heart is a small planet and loved ones are always close by us. and that closeness endures beyond lifetimes. you will feel your mother with you for the rest of your life. we are never alone.

the other thing i would say is try to talk with those people you are closest to about how you are dealing with this. don't get lost inside yourself with your stresses and troubles.
men particularly (statistically, not meaning to stereotype you) are prone to putting on a brave face and self-isolating when adversity strikes. but that can prevent people who would like support you from getting in. which is self-defeating. maybe you will heal better and faster with their support. accept love.

    stay strong. life is good.

  • Very sad - my sympathy and best wishes to both of you.

People talk about 'getting over' bereavement. I don't think one really does, but over time you do learn to live with it and accept it. Warm memories help.

Thoughts and positive vibes to you.  I know, this is a very hard time, and it can take quite a while to readjust. Take each day as it comes and don't be embarrassed if you think you need help.
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

  • Sorry to hear you sad news (both of you).
I lost my Dad 3 years ago. Many people say it gets easier, I just think you get more used to the big hole they left. I still occasionally pick up my phone to call him when I'm watching City or Wigan on tv.
