We may all have brands who were personally think can do no wrong, but no brand is universally loved.  The best you'll find are brands that not many people dislike.

  • I would say Yamaha, tokai and carvin/kiesel guitars.
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

The Dentist thing with PRS is a bit tiresome, especially when you look at the flippin huge prices asked for Gibson CS stuff - and don't even get started about the vintage stuff. And Felines aren't exactly cheap, are they...?

It's not the price, but the bling .. remember the Dragons? They were never going to be gigged - just bought by 'dentists' to noodle on at home or put on the wall. As you say Gibson's can cost more.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

I love Godins, but I know some people find them a bit lifeless. I mostly think that's to do with the stock pickups though.

  • Nik Huber and Tom Anderson?

Yamaha -some models may be a bit generic but they're spot-on. Never seen a bad one.
I agree with this. Even low end Pacifica’s are more playable than many brands three times the price. And a mid priced Yamaha is just so much quality for your buck. The only make of guitar that I would buy unplayed.

Was just about to say Yamaha too. They might not be many people's dream guitars but it's well known you get a good instrument for your money with them.

So far winners seem to be Yamaha and Squier (of the major brands, not including smaller specialist luthiers) :)

Rightly so. The intonation is impeccable
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

Meh. Nicely made, but don't do anything for me sound-wise.

I find them very boring, and I don't think it's the pickups.

    Nik Huber and Tom Anderson?
I've only played one Huber, but thought it had the usual high-end small-maker problem of being impeccably made but characterless - exemplified to the max by Anderson. I've never played an Anderson I liked.

I've seen a bad one or two, but it's extremely rare. I do find them just a little generic until you get up to the more serious pro models though - well-made, but not particularly interesting compared to others at the same price. I do think they trade a little on the name, although they are (almost) totally reliable. They're a good company to deal with though - their customer service is excellent.

I would also agree with Ibanez as one of the best brands.

No doubt I have now pissed off half the forum...

I've never heard a bad word about Feline! So them!
I read this everywhere on here, but when members are flush with £2.5K, they throw it at a company that doesn't give a monkeys...

    Odd.

Yamaha seems the obvious one - many players will have started on one, played one - or aspired to own one. Plus they cover classical, flat tops, bolt on necks, set/through necks, semis, etc.

And have never had a ‘dodgy’ production period....

Agree with this, a shame they don’t have higher end Pacifica modes anymore, or I would have one in a heartbeat. Having said that the 611/2s are crazy value for money...
