Classic 50's Strat - Surf green or Daphne blue?

What's Hot

edited September 2018 in Guitar
As per the title. I'm thinking I might buy myself a 50's Strat.

(Puts on Harry Hill voice) Well I like the look of Surf green, but I also like Daphne blue. But which is better? There's only one way to find out - ask you guys.

Ps despite this being a GAS forum, 'Buy both' is not an acceptable response.

Thanks.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

I've blown several fuses trying to choose between them.

If there was a gun to my head I'd choose Daphne Blue but I'd be hatching a secret plan to also get the Surf Green later on.

    Both are beautiful.

If you get a Daphne Blue with the lacquer finish, it will slowly turn a subtle shade of green. Double win.

Daphne if it's a rosewood board.
    Surf if it's maple.

Did they do rosewood boards in the '50's?

    The 50's spec is maple.

I've got limited edition one in Jetstream blue.  That's quite nice if you can find one.

  • Daphne Blue. Make sure you add a nice mint green pick guard. Added awesomeness points for a rosewood board.

kicked in around 59 - transition era - But think only available on a Custom Shop model as a 59 with rosewood board - Otherwise 50's is maple

    Both.
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Surf green if it’s a maple board, by far. Blue for Rosewood.

Hopefully not quite saying both but the blue for a Strat. And then add in a surf green tele when circumstances allow

Then a Jazzmaster in shell pink but that’s another chapter altogether.
