  • Such a shame they insist on identifying Epiphones with that headstock - in every other respect that’s a great looking guitar.

    More info

The Limited Edition Peter Frampton Les Paul Custom Pro (pictured above) is limited to only 200 guitars worldwide and includes a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity and a premium hard case. A guitar-only version of the Ltd. Ed. Peter Frampton Les Paul Custom Pro is also available with the same specifications and is limited to 900 guitars worldwide.

Both Les Pauls feature ProBucker and CeramicPRO Open-Coil humbuckers, an Ebony fretboard and gold Grover Rotomatic machine heads. The Les Pauls are based on  Frampton’s legendary 1954 Les Paul—now known as the “Phenix”—that helped  power his rise to fame in the Seventies before it was presumed lost in a plane crash in Venezuela in 1980 and then rediscovered in 2012.

I think the Epi headstock is OK in it's own right.
It's only demeaned by the odious comparison to the Gibson moustache headstock.

I’m actually interested in playing one.

That picture on the front of Comes Alive was the inspiration for me wanting a LP Custom 3 pickup. My Gibson wasn’t great and weighed the same as the moon, sadly - but it looked incredible.

    I want to play one...

I’ve said it before in another thread recently about Epi’s but they’re definitely having more fun over at Epiphone than Gibson these days !
Thats cool. I’d buy it just to play “Do You Feel ?” On over and over and over

I'm a big Frampton fan and that's the only Gibson/Epiphone that would tempt me...But I'd rather have an Eastman version etc.

+1 - it kills it IMO. In Japan, they have nice Gibson style headstocks but not in UK/Europe...how bloody stupid is that!  :p
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

  • I’ve always thought Epiphone Les Paul headstocks were fine. Ones with binding look even more neat imho. And unlike Tokais, Burnys et al, they can have “Les Paul” written on them. Good to see it sporting an ebony board as well.

    I'm fine with Epiphone headstocks.

I think they look great and I don't much like Gibsons.
    YMMV.

  • How do Epi get ebony fretboards but real LP Customs don't??

Is it just because HenryJ has a stick up his arse about buying from Taylor?

If you get a punter heckling you at a gig, the Epi headstock is also a much easier shape to shove right up their ass if they go to far...

The Gibbon one would get "hooked"...

This seems to be the only Epi Les Paul Custom with an ebony fretboard.  All the others have rosewood.

My guess would be that Gibson had to switch to richlite for Customs after all their ebony got seized by the US government, and they’re still trying to shift the stock from that production period.  The Frampton LP gets ebony as it’s a limited current production run.

Great looking guitar but that Epiphone headstock ruins it.

I don’t even mind the gold hardware on that too much, looks like a nice guitar.

Not at all sure about the fuss over Epi heads on LPs. Can’t say as I have a preference over theirs or Gibson’s. That said, the G&L version of a Fender head is enough to put me off what I know are very good guitars.

Anyone know if these will have an Epiphone or Gibson price tag?
