Trex replica is a very nice sounding delay tonally ....
Guitarguitar are running a special on the Trex Reptile 2 which is a relative of that. Not sure if it sounds the same or not, in theory it does.

I've got a Reptile Mk 1 and compared it against the Replica before I bought it. I was looking to replace an unreliable vintage (1978?) Deluxe Memory Man with something that sounded close but wouldn't break down all the time and cost a fortune to fix (the transformer was inside mine, not a wall wart, it failed twice).

The Reptile did the trick - it sounds very warm, plus has a tape wow/flutter thingy to add a chorusy-style effect to everything. Runs off a standard 9V power supply and doesn't need much power, so it can even be daisy-chained. The Mk1 doesn't have a tap tempo. the Reptile 2 does. The Mk 1 uses the second button to toggle the tape effect on/off.

The Replica is much more faithful sounding, with clean, accurate repeats. I preferred the Reptile - in the main because I was replacing the DMM, not looking for a digital delay.

If you can stretch 50 more, the el Capistan.. gets the vintage sound quite well with the tape wear and wow/flutter on high, gives a nice dark cracking imperfect echo..

Funny you should mention that....after researching all the options very helpfully suggested on this thread I ended up deciding to extend my budget and get an El Capistan. :)

Another option is the Vahlbruch Spacetime. An excellent delay unit with 100% analogue signal path.

Belle Epoch. I was a real echo/delay fussy bastard for a long time and the Epoch does it perfectly.

Simple enough to dial in, varied enough to give an array of sounds and just right. I sold all of my other delays and I had a fair number of them :)

    What's the verdict?

I may go for one myself, can they do a decent slapback?

Loving it so far....it does way more than I need it to right now but it's fun to experiment.

Slapback is one of the main things I wanted it for, along with a nice warm "thickening" sort of delay, and it delivers for both of those brilliantly. I'm going to have to get a "favourite" switch to switch between those two things now I think.

Honestly.....dont waste your money until you have tried the Belcat Analogue delay for £22 ........best slapback you ever heard and normal 400ms area is great too
    - it's one of those sleepers that can't believe is so good for the money

Another vote for the Carbon Copy. Really great pedal and they do a bright version if you have a particularly dark sounding guitar/amp.

How has no one recommended the Malekko Ekko 616?

    Still regret selling mine!

tbf, if you’re looking for a delay pedal on a budget you could do a lot worse that either of the Raygun Aroura pedals (both of which I sell
