the CAE one is superb, as is the Dimebag one, although the new Dunlop Clyde McCoy sounds great

    BBE Ben Wah.

Not very expensive, but great sounding to the point where a conman rebadged it, sold it for $300+ and had a lot of people raving about how good it was.
Oh yes the BBE is superb . I have one with the Vertex badge on it (paid BBE money for it though)

+1 on the new(ish) Dunlop Clyde McCoy. Not something the OP needs to spend on but had to comment, after many wahs I got to this and it is the sound of wah in my head.  It's expensive but I'm still routinely tempted to buy another one.  It's weird it doesn't get more attention.

I had a Vox for years which I thought was awesome, then plugged in a mates standard Crybaby and realised how much better it sounded both on and off. The stock vox bypass kills tone and sustain something chronic - didn't realise til I took it out the chain! I got bored of wah as I over used it but might pick one up again soon.

  •  I have both the Vox and the crybaby. The actual Wah circuit is identical, the only difference is the Crybaby has a buffer. So can make a fuzz in the chain after it sound less fuzzy.

If you’re buying for your grandson then I recommend buying a power supply at the same time. Otherwise (like my son) he might leave a cable plugged in and the pedal switched on - thus draining the battery. Repeatedly.

I would recommend the EHX Cockfight Wah which also has built in fuzz which can be switched to work either side of the circuit - or off. Instant Hendrix (kind of).

Completely coincidentally - I’m selling a mint 9-month-old example on the classified section.
