Which glue ?

Not quite an amp question, but I couldn't make up my mind where to post the question

I've got a pair of old (34 years) Heybrook HB1 speakers and I need to replace the sponge round one of the cones (the other had a new driver a few years ago so doesn't need doing yet) as it's cracked and also noticeably quieter than the other one - I assume the sponge is no longer as flexible.

I've got the sponge, but not the glue - any recommendations ?

Do you mean the outer gasket? I tend to just use contact adhesive, evostick should be fine.

Pretty sure if you look at old Celestion speakers they used a type of contact adhesive. It is only since the 80's the glue seems to get a bit more specialised.

There are a few "speaker glues" for sale on amazon and ebay but judging by the cheap packaging, they are clearly just something else that has been rebottled. You could try the Moyen stuff but its pretty expensive:

Be careful, when you say around the edge and not very flexible do you mean it's part of the cone? If so I don't know if you can just replace the outer edge of the cone without doing the standard 'recone' job. If thats the case you'd need to find someone with the correct replacement cones, then clean off all traces of the old cone and affix the replacements.

If you just mean the outer gasket between steel frame and wooden baffle board, then evostick used to be the glue of choice.

and are well beyond a dab of glue and some foam.

That's the bit I'm replacing - the foam ring (surround?) that connects the cone to the chassis - I have purchased a tube of glue that was recommended to me (Fevibond).

I have the correct foam ring and have watched a couple of YouTube vids - it doesn't look that hard, we'll see!

Ah I didn't realise it was hifi speakers you were talking about. I thought you meant the gasket on a guitar speaker. Like this:
