My bass project.

Project time, 

I've been refinishing guitars and stuff for a while and it's finally time to take things a bit further.

I have a strat kit to build next week, (will be a build thread on that soon) but yesterday I picked up a P bass body and parts from @Teyeplayer (thanks again dude!) .This will be my project for after the partscaster strat build.

Step 1 - designing and planning

I didn't really want a P bass shape, but I did want a project, so I'll be changing the shape slightly and adding some kind of burl top.

For now I've been playing around with the shape in photoshop (roughly and quickly), I used a photo of a P body and altered that, then added a burl top photo and roughly shaped where I want the bevels round the edges. What does everyone think of the shape?

More importantly, in the photo I've taken some material away above the neck pocket (top cutaway) , is this a bad idea?
Don't think the top will be quite this fancy, but its a general idea of what I want ..

Well I personally prefer that burl top your suggesting. Glad this is finally getting built rather than gathering dust in my spare room.

Yes - looks good to me.

I like bevels and /or curves at the inside cutaways of the horns. I think they look good, but also, certainly for the lower horn, they make playing at the dusty end much more comfortable

Just photoshopped the above wood I'll be using onto the body shape with an idea of the stain I'll be trying..

Quick rough job but if it looks anything like this I'll be dead chuffed 
Imagine it'll be a bit darker than this too ..

Aye I'm really happy with the wood choice cheers.. when it turns up I'll be experimenting with blue stain on the offcuts, hoping to get it something like my plan

Sorry for reviving an old thread but did you finish this?

I’m researching a burl top and it would be great to hear how you got on with this and see the finished piece?
