Hipshot locking tuners for strat

Hi there.

First real post but I have been here since quite a while. I hope you can help me to shape my opinion on this.

I was going to change the tuners in my American Pro Stratocaster and I was pretty much settled on a set of legit Schaller Locking F Series...

In a nutshell:
- 18:1 ratio
- 37g / piece
- direct replacement for MIA Standard / Pro series
- €116 = $135 = £100

...this until I found that Hipshot actually makes AmPro replacement locking tuners too

- 21:1 ratio
- 36.8g / piece
- direct replacement for MIA Standard / Pro series
- €70 = $80 = £60

I like the price and better ratio of Hipshots.

So here's the questions - any first hand opinions on Hipshot locking retrofits?

Thx

  • I've not tried the retrofit ones, but I do have some of the open gear ones (which I imagine are basically the same in a different case) and they're great - I really recommend them.

I’ve not had a go on the retrofits but since I found Hipshot Griploks, Sperzel are dead to me !

The same weight as Hipshots. Not much difference

  • I love the hipshots. I have them on my own Strat.

I love the hipshots too. Dead easy to fit to a strat. Only thing I didn’t quite like was the default tulip-shaped buttons, so I paid a little extra for some others. The tuners work very well. Positive feel, don’t slip (should go without saying), and really quick to restring or change a broken string.
