Got this song demo going and seem to be stuck where to go next...repeat some of the same?...guitar solo ?...something else, middle 8 break ?

Any reviews on mix would be good as well please...

No idea why it randomly chooses to not play outside of sound cloud....drive me nuts

it actually sounds very polished as it is mate!  =) If I was going to stick anything else in there it'd be a quiet middle 8, or a short solo - perhaps slightly elaborating on the guitar lines (with the distorted sound) that you're playing in the chorus? But I wouldn't necessarily say it needs anything as such  =)

It sounds very professional overall, nice one!

Take this with a pinch of salt, I don't particularly know what I'm talking about - it's not an informed opinion just my subjective tastes - but it feels a bit too full for my tastes. The low end is maybe slightly too pronounced / dominating the rest, and the effect is a bit fatiguing to listen to on my headphones at volume. I don't think the bassline is interesting enough musically to warrant driving/dominating the song. I would probably enjoy more space in the overall sound, with the bass a little deeper and being able to hear the guitars a little better. Possibly the high hats seem a tiny bit buried in the mix, and possibly the whole thing is missing the tiniest tiniest bit of 'shine' on the high end.

So I'm almost done on this now...some drum track tweaks to do....I used Ozone Elements on the final mix...is it overcooked ?

I've been trying to improve my vocal production.. Would appreciate if you could explain a couple of things..

    1. What are you doing for vocal reverb? Do you have a single reverb channel and just send all the vocal tracks in?
    2. What are you doing to get that impressive choir sound? is it just a low pass on the harmonies/backup vocals into reverb + panning?
    3. What sort of room did you use to record your vocals? Do you have sound treatment? It sounds quite clean.

@Branshen - good question !...Ill check the vocal chain later, but regarding the choir effectively, its essential lots of panned vocal takes, the main vocalist did a just a 2 or 3 tracks, then I got a pal whos a real strong singer to come in stick down about 8 tracks of panned harmonies on the main lines, he also did some of the verse phrases as well.

If you also have some material , we can listen and review?

Edit - is that your bandcamp stuff ?.....sounds good !

Interesting. Let me know about the chain. I'm interested if a bunch of tracks is all it takes to make it full like yours, or if you used reverb.

Yea. The bandcamp link is my previous band. We did the recording and mixing ourselves. That piece of work a little bit dated now and I've been trying to get better in production.

So - I have a lead vocal and the FX chain is - EQ - Rvox - Dbx 160 - Open air reverb - Scheps Omni - De ess.
Multi band dynamic, there is alas an FX send to another reverb and a delay.

The main vocalist did 2 harmony tracks, each recorded twice and panned hard L/R, these are bussed and then have Open Air reverb and Scheps Omni.

My pal did some additional backing vocals, he did 3 part harmonies, each done twice and hard panned L/R, no FX on individual tracks, but all bussed, on the bus is Rvox - Scheps Omni - then FX sends to same reverb and delay as main vocals.

So , on the chorus there is the Lead vocal plus 10 backing vocals in total, with the main FX being reverb and delay.

Ive found that doing lots of takes is the only real way to build an impressive vocal.

    Hope that helps.
