More on monitors

As we only run a vocal PA and our Drummer an bass player (to an extent the other guitarist and myself) were not able to hear enough guitar in the onstage monitor mix. I came up with a solution, which is to take the emulated line out from the guitar amps put it through a small mixer and into a powered speaker (Mackie Thump12a) positioned as a wedge stage centre. Problem solved, it worked a treat at last nights gig, it's easy to control and doesn't muddy/compete with the vocal monitor.
Don't touch that dial.

  • Gary Moore used to do something similar, with a volume pedal in line to enable him to vary its relative loudness at will.
