I take it he does not "stack" them like that?? he is a one at a time sort of guy?

  • He is but he uses the spark boost to kick more gain out of the JRAD

Depends whether you want a gain boost or a master volume boost?

See I’m new to fuzz units so I don’t know what the sketch is with them but I thought that accepted wisdom was low gain into high gain so wouldn’t that mean Spark into JRAD ?

  • Its sounding pretty bloody good the other way round though bro

I find ‘accepted wisdom’ is wrong and the right order is determined by EQ - more midrange into less midrange, regardless of gain.

The position of the boost depends on whether you want to increase distortion or volume.

The Big Muff is very scooped and if I use a boost it’s to increase volume, so for me it would be overdrive > Muff > boost.

But you may have different preferences or purposes. There are only six combinations of three pedals, try them all...

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

"Only two things are infinite - the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe." - Albert Einstein

  • Muff of the board, in a cupboard, where it belongs.

But if you must, you want something mid-heavy that can drive the Muff and make it sound better, then something after to make it louder and fatter. Plus I always use clean boosts as "make fuller & louder" boxes, I'd probably go JRAD - Muff - Spark.

But I'm happy to admit I don't think I'd actually choose any of those pedals, let alone use them together.

  • I always run low gain stuff at the end because they're generally heavier in the mids so I feel like the EQ change/boost is more dramatic. If I run a boost into a fuzz I just seem to get the fuzz, but more of it; running it after changes the character entirely.

Have you tried Spark in the middle?
