Picks suggestions

What's Hot
Fishboy7Fishboy7 Frets: 2189
About to replenish my supply of picks. I've been using the Eric Johnson Jazz pics for about 15 years but thought I might experiment with something different.

Any interesting suggestions?

I would probably like to go a bit thicker and more rigid.

    Primetone -1.4mm

Very nice. Also the ultrex picks are nice, good value so you can try a lot of shapes and sizes for £5

Been using Dunlop 1.14 ‘Black Fangs’ for a few years.  I dare say they do the same thing but without the Hetfield logo though!

  • I’ve been using Herco Flex .75 nylon pics for a while now, might be worth checking out.

The Dunlop Ultex Jazz are terrific, if you like the size/shape of the Jazz picks (and better than the Primetone material, in my opinion—though those are probably worth a try as well).

  • Well timed thread, was tempted to ask a similar question.

    Thanks,

I like the look of the Primetones, - I'll try the 1.5mm

  • I'm currently using Blue Chip picks (have used Jazz and Red Bears in the past).

One of the Dunlop Flow range might suit you - I've found I really like the Flow Jumbo 3.0 version. Feels nice and precise to use, good for speed, but also gives a good full tone.

  • I recently started using some Dunlop Flow 1.0 and I really like them.

Can also recommend the Dunlop Nylon Big Stubby, I really like these too.

Hmm. Never gone as heavy as 3mm but sounds worth a try.

For years I used Dunlop 1mm nylon but they feel way too flexy now.

Try V picks. I really really like them! Go between a tradition lite and an EKG.

I bought some of the Primetone 1.0mm a few weeks ago and I think they’re great, they feel much more rigid than the Dunlop 1.0mm pics that I previously used.

  • I've been using V Pick Jalapino & Euro's for well over a year now, couldn't live without them .

  • I’ve been experimenting with picks lately and I’ve ended up with Ernie Ball Prodigy’s as one of my favourites. Chicken Picks Badazz might also be an option you should try...

I went on an experimental trip last year when I heard about boutique picks.

Ive used Jim Dunlop Ultex picks for years now, but I treated myself to a Hawk pick, and a couple of Winspears. The Hawk is just brilliant, and providing I don’t lose them, the Winspears will outlive me - the Gladius is 6mm thick, and is amazing!

I still use the Dunlop 2mm Ultex though, but I naturally gravitate to the Hawk.
I don’t have a gambling problem, I’m winning, and winning is not a problem for me. That’s like saying that Iron Maiden have an awesomeness problem.

I use D'addario's Abalone style ones.

Got fed up of the usual Dunlop gels having mouldlines around the edge which sound horrible when it catches the string, which was always..

Never used to find that issue, only recently.

I'm converted. They look cool, are big ish, stiff and look awesome!

Thanks for the comments.  I'm sure it's been said many times before but finding the right pick can really transform the playing experience, .... I suppose it's a trade off between feel / flexibility and speed / rigidity ....???
