Ok, now I want a slide guitar. And to meet Daniel Lanois

I've always liked the sound of albums produced by Daniel, but it's a pleasure to hear him play slide (in a really nice, unconventional manner) and talk about his experiences. Dweezil could have done with turning his guitar/amp up a bit, though.

I love the guy. He's so laid back and understated. And on stage, he's got this kind of slightly awkward diffusing humour going on. I remember when I saw him with Black Dub in London at the end of the gig he said thanks, and finished with "Ok, it's Whisky time!"

If you've not read his book, I recommend it.

That sounds ace. It's always whisky time :)

I shall have a scan for it. I don't get much reading time these days but music books always sway me.

    Get one!

I've been playing pedal steel now for about 6 weeks. It's mind blowing.
I also have a Weissenborn style. I am smitten with the bar...

Ha! Sadly I genuinely don't have the space right now - but I'm totally intrigued by some of the sounds he was getting and how he was using it. It sounded magical. Most people have one sound in mind when you mention slide guitar but this was something else.

  • His collaboration with Venetian Snares is possibly the oddest one I can think of.

You should check out his solo album Shine. Brilliant, great songs.

Always kinda dug Lanois' ambient/textural approach to PSG.

Here's a couple of more if anyone's feeling floaty.

Beauty of Wynona, the song, is my favourite ever mix. If you get the chance, listen to it loud on good speakers. He's an absolute master of sonics.

Utterly beautiful. Literally made me tear up, that one did.
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....
