A salutary warning

What's Hot

Sometimes, just sometimes, things happen and that’s just the way it is.

Been on holiday for a week - but literally the day before I went I picked up my fretless bass, and overnight this had happened:

It appears that it has suffered a catastrophic truss rod failure. Contacted the maker and it’s going in Monday for repairs. Took loads of pics for him and he confirmed it - truss rod has either bent or snapped and cracked the laminate on the back of the neck - the crack is about 4mm and it’s probly 10cm long..

I’m beginning to wonder if I should just get rid of this one as it’s cursed or something....

Ouch..but they'll sort it, so no need to 'fret'.
At least I'm assuming this is a guarantee repair? !
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

Probably not a guarantee repair - it’s 10 years old!

Yeah - looks like I’m destined not to play fretless ;)

Think I’ll get a 5er instead. What could possibly go wrong?

Thanks. If it was any other bass it’d be on the scrap heap now I think..

Can you actually count to five? You are not exactly famed for liking Jazz or Prog Rock.

    Au contraire, Blackadder..

My collection of prog rock vinyl is most extensive...

    Jazz can do one, mind.

Meant to add... never had to count to 5.. I did have to read the “8” on the tape measure last time I measured the old man though :D

  • Oh man that is unfortunate!

I have honestly never seen this on any instrument. Do you know what caused it?

No, not yet. I’m sure Jon will let me know when he gets it.

My suspicion is the weld on the dual action truss rod failed

Get rid of it and stick to Fenders, like a lovely fretless Jazz Special in burgundy mist.... similar to the one I've got listed in the classifieds, maybe  ;)

Yeah it’d need to be something catastrophic to generate the force to break through the wood like that.

A shame you’re having so much trouble with it as it is a really nice looking instrument
