You may be amazed to know that this isn't some random lunacy, it's a recreation of one of its namesake's "customised" Gibsons. I've never seen the originals and I'm not an expert on can't stand Kiss so I don't know how accurate it is, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's pretty similar. The foil isn't an insulator - it's to protect the wiring against heat and smoke.

Someone once asked me if I could do something like it... I said no!

Over at the Seymour Duncan User Group forum, there is a long-standing member who is a complete and utter KISS obsessive. He eventually landed one of the limited edition Gibson Custom Shop Frehley Les Pauls - accurate, right down to the singe marks and the redrilled upper bout strap button. The Chibson on eBay is not "pretty similar".
