Great album. My daughter was born to that album. She’s 18 now. Loves it.

I did a mix cd of all the mellow/acoustic songs of Led Zeppelin, it works a treat!

Not guitar based but William Basinski works for me. Loads of ambient noises with swathes of delay. Lots of repetition and slight variation. Lovely.

  • For me, a "high degree of musicianship" and "music to fall asleep to" are mutually exclusive. I really don't want my mind to be over-stimulated while I'm trying to nod off, especially as someone disposed to insomnia.

For almost every night since the mid eighties, I have listened to a couple of albums by Brian Eno and Harold Budd, these being Ambient 2: The Plateaux of Mirror and The Pearl. They are mostly piano based, with Eno's trademark effect treatments. Both are beautiful albums and I find them invaluable for winding down, ready for sleep.
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

  • Here is my no 1 song to fall asleep to, which I have done countless times. There are a few versions, this one is from the excellent Positiva Ambient Collection from 93.
O.O.B.E.  (ie out of body experience) by the Orb, whcih samples Steve Reich w/ Pat Metheny - Electric Counterpoint. (they also sample this for Little Fluffy Clouds)

Really enjoyed listening to those Harold Budd/Eno collaborations @lasermonkey , I like this Harold Budd & Robin Guthrie looped track as well.

If you can read this then my time machine works.
