So first of a possible number of trips to play a gig or two outside the UK for a change has arrived. My fly rig is all ready to go and I’ve bought a decent Hiscox case for my Strat to (hopefully safely) travel in.

Got to fly with Ryanair though  Next Thursday from Luton......wish me luck!!

Consider using some clothing to pad around the guitar, where there are spaces ( also frees up space in your suitcase, or whatever else you are taking). Though, maybe don't do what I did when I put my guitar in the hold -- use all your underwear and all your socks. My guitar arrived in fine condition, but 2 days after I landed in Italy!! s

Guitar case and hand luggage (which will be mostly full of pedal board) so yes, it’ll be padded out as much as possible with clothes.

Not considered the possibility of it arriving after me....land at lunchtime and playing the gig that night!!! It could be tricky.

Just spent 10mins on the classifieds looking at what I could get with the insurance money if it all goes badly wrong.

Nothing like positive mental attitude eh ;)

I was flying with KLM, and had to change planes in Amsterdam. KLM didn't manage to get my guitar into the second plane in time. Second time I flew the same route, they didn't manage transfer about half a dozen people's suitcases, including mine. I later heard from others that KLM have a reputation for doing this.

Then you're a step ahead of my colleague, who recently put his nearly-new Martin acoustic in the hold of a Ryanair flight ... in a soft case.

Would anyone like to speculate on whether it arrived safely?
