    #honeymoonperiodover?

I was excited to try a Katana (50w combo) and thought it was awful.

I don't get the whole obsession with the Katana honeymoon period.

Still got one, still thing it's a decent cheap amp.
Me too. Sounds fabulous at any volume.

Me too. I seem to be in the minority so I'm willing to accept it's just me, but when I had a go on one this summer (think it was 50w) I thought it sounded cheap and nasty, like some grim 90s budget practice amp.

You have to In my experience consider the K50 a bedroom low powered amp. That’s what it sounds best as. The more volume you introduce the more low end you loose and the more fizz creeps in. But on 0.5 watts it’s a great amp.
Maybe that's it, but seems very limited for a 50w amp.

Gigged my 100 combo again last night at Portsmouth Guildhall (a large beer festival).  Once again it kicked arse.  For me, it's very close to the plateau of diminishing returns when it comes to gigging amps.  Doesn't stop my hankering for a fawn AC30, but it's undeniably a great tool for just about any guitaring scenario.
Some of the gear, some idea

It seems the update has removed the sneaky amps. Might be worth waiting to see how things pan out before updating.
If I were ever to get one, it would have to work with sneaky amps so useful to know it's not going to work in v3
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

I'd be really happy if they made the fx buttons cycle green / amber / red / off instead of having to turn them off using the knob. Also, allowing the USB input signal to come after the modelling but through the speaker would make it a lot more useful.

  • How long did people's updates take? Got a KTN100 for Christmas but the update is taking a while...

Only a few seconds I think. Just drop the two files into the katana usb drive when connected to pc and then press a few buttons while booting. The instructions were pretty simple.
    Karma......

Anyone tried this? I updated my Katana 100 and there seems to be a tonal difference after installing the firmware (and not a good one) - the clean channel sounds darker and the drives are a bit more harsh and less dynamic.

I updated a Katana Artist and didn't notice any tonal change.

I've just tried the sneaky amps on the Artist running 3.01 and they work ok for me.

First time I'd tried them and glad I did. The 1959 is pretty good.

A bit late to the party, but I finally upgraded the firmware yesterday, and dear me... A muff through the DC-30's echo section just sounds absolutely huge.

You need a thick pick to get any enjoyment out of a big muff.

And correct fingering and strumming technique. It'll soon let you know if it's not correct.
