I am indulging myself in a couple of Blondie videos, she really was lovely and the songs were terrific.

I noticed a couple of the gals in the Dreaming vid doing the "slut drop" I didn't now it was thing back in '79. Some sexy guys and gals in that vid. Those clothes are high fashion these days.

I remember being shocked to find out how old she was - I was 12 or 13 at the time, so to be over 30 seemed about as old as my grandparents - but in fact I think that was part of what made her so attractive - although she looked young for her age she was clearly worldly-wise, self-assured, contemptuous, and not at all like a typical pretty girl . Some of her expressions in the Heart Of Glass video are absolutely priceless. Changed my life forever, that's for sure...

I’m the same age as you @ICBM, and yes, she was unbearably and effortlessly cool and unbearably and effortlessly beautiful to a 12-year old watching Top of the Pops in 1979. Plus, the songs were great! It was only many years later that I realised she was over 30 at the time of the first hits. Not that it made any difference.

She freaked me out quite a lot in Videodrome, [spoiler alert if you haven’t yet watched this 1983 fillum] taking her top off and doing stuff with cigarettes. 
I think the oddest claim to fame is that Blondie had what is considered to be the first ever rap record to be broadcast on MTV.

Yep, her little nuances and suggestive little expressions are so sublte yet so tantalising, incredible for back in 1979.

Heard a nice story about Blondie and their drummer. Early on he apparently wasn't much cop as a drummer but they liked him and rather than sack him, they paid for drum lessons for him.
I have no idea as to the truth of this but it's a nice story.

Apparently Clem Burke's a noisy bastard (as a drummer) - but very photogenic in the videos -the compromise to sacking him was the plexiglass enclosure they still use.

Still have a very soft spot for DH

I think I’ve told this story before but I was listening to a phone in on local radio about tribute bands and they had the Brummie Debbie on. Some chap phoned up explaining that he was this massive Blondie fan, seen them live dozens of times,etc. I thought he was going to lay into the tribute singer but he said he’d seen her and the band and they were great, better than Blondie in the early days because they were always high as kites and could hardly play.

Never thought of myself as middle aged before... you are right though, but Debbie Harry was very special. It wasn't wall to wall pornhub and scantily clad billboards back then. She was like the Marylin Monroe of her time..... and mine
