One Pedal Too Many, Daisy Chain Query

I usually run six pedal max so a standard daisy chain from my Diago power supply works great. However I've decided to add one more pedal which has required adding a daisy chain extension.

Problem now is that I have three daisy chain plugs just loose and unconnected. What's the best thing to do with these loose plugs? If they touch the metal casing of another pedal it sometimes sends the display of my tuner a bit bonkers so I'm guessing its not good to just have them loose and exposed.

Wrap em in leccy tape for a quick easy fix.

You must do this, or cover them in some other way, since when they touch the other pedals they're shorting out the supply and could potentially damage it.

  • Old Boss ones came with nice little rubber sleeves to go over the ends of unused plugs, but the electrical tape solution works fine.

Of course the real answer is to buy more pedals to avoid this altogether.

I use little offcuts of guitar cable jacket. They usually fit just right.

    Depends what you are doing.

You normally want to keep digital pedals isolated, but daisy chaining drives and boosts together is normally ok (as long as they aren't Fuzz Face style reverse ground).

My power supply has 8 isolated outputs, and I'm running 10 or 11 pedals off of it.  I've just daisy chained the drives together off of one output and it's fine.  There is no way I'd daisy chain the digital pedals though.

I think I've got one or two spare connectors on my daisy chain that have insulating tape on.  Works fine.

  • You could always snip off the unwanted plugs and heat shrink the stump.
