Fuzzface types to try.

I am looking at putting together a board just for a few choice pedals and a fuzzface type is a must for me.

What are peoples recomendations?

I have tried or have the following

Thorpy Veteran Si
Fulltone 69 v2
Dunlop Jimi
Dunlop BoG
Dunlop mini Ge
Analogman Sunlion TU

I was thinking i might take a look at the following

Analogman Sunlion NKT
Shanks 4k
Thorpy Veteran Ge

Any others that are fuzzface based that you think are the best or that i should try?

@NorthernStomps advice taken. I’ve ordered one. On YouTube it looks similar to the Wampler Velvet?

For fuzz face style fuzzes, my favourite builder and certainly one who can challenge the Sunlions of this world is Sonus.
    http://www.sonus-pedals.com/fuzz1968-jimi-mod.html
Patrizio, who builds his pedals perfectly, is one of the best Hendrix players on youtube land. I've pitched them against 5 original fuzz faces, and while each ff has its own personality and idiosyncrasies, the Sonus 68 definitely held its own. Actually, the Thorpy silicon veteran did remarkably well too.
I can confidently say that regarding fuzzes, I'm now sorted with my Sonus and Thorpy providing the duties (the Veteran treble boost can also work its magic on the Sonus).
A last suggestion would be something from VL effects. I have a jimiBlack boost which really pushes the amp with some germanium dirt and almost fuzz or overdriven like at times, easily cleaned up with the volume pot. But VL are very expensive.

The Black Moon is fantastic for Fuzz Face tones. Had mine for a couple of weeks now and can't turn it off.

Currently rocking a Chase Tone '68 Velvet Fuzz which has a lot of control over the tone. Came from a Sunface. Enjoying it so far.
My Trade Feedback Thread is here

Been uploading old tracks I recorded ages ago and hopefully some new noodles here.

Remember that a great fuzz face type pedal (such as Sonus, and not Sonuus) can eliminate other pedals: bye bye clean boost, bye bye transparent overdrive, bye bye full on overdrive, all with a slight adjustments on your guitar volume.
Please do not underestimate the fuzz/amp relationship here. The amp should already be on slight breakup when the fuzz hits it for maximum Jimi. That way your guitar volume can restore the clean at will and the fuzz level needn't be maxed.

Exactly right, this is the plan for my new smaller pedalboard. Though because I’m using a Strat I think an EP boost is useful but ultimately this is the board.

    Boss TU3
Fuzzface (trying a Black Moon but will try a Sonus)
    Strymon Flint
    Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay

Into a Marshall JTM45 and a Fender Tweed Bassman.

Sonus has stopped producing the bc108 and now only offers the 68 jimi mod (germanium) and a bc183. If buying directly from Sonus, I would ask him kindly if the volume output could be a little higher. Get the 68. I prefer the therapy silicon over the Sonus bc108.
Alternatively, you could try the veteran germanium and have the treble boost to do the work of the EP boost. One just sold on TFB and I think there's still another on sale here.
I'd say your rig is almost perfect.

The only fuzz I now have is the Mojo Hand Crosstown. I've been through quite a few including a BC183 Sunface, a Hartman 108 (which was dreadful) an MXR 108, the mini Hendrix Fuzz face (turquoise one), a White Atom, J Rockett WTF, Skreddy Lunar Module and the Crosstown is the only one that's stayed as the controls allow for quite a bit of tonal variation that can get me in the ballpark of the others.

  • I do like FF fuzzes but the buffer thang really annoys me, It's nature of the beast I realise it but still a bit irritating. White Atom sounds quite good though to my ears and is buffer friendly :) I'd go for the v3 version if I was looking for a fuzz personally :) It's on the list :)

How do you mean? In terms of they don’t play well after a buffer?

They play fine but don't clean up as well when there is a buffer before them. They like to see the guitar only. I'm just knit picking. Silly really as I mainly play dirty anyway lol

I'd definitely recommend a look at the Eric Johnson FF - it's enormous, impractical and an awful colour.  But it's a bloody awesome sounding Silicon Fuzz.

I'd have bought one but it is a stupid size for my board and lacks 9V input (battery only :( )
