Well let us know how Christmas you are when it's the night before Christmas, and all in the house, nothing was stirring, not even a beep .

It's stopped and started again since then. I had to go out earlier. Otherwise I would have taken a hammer to plasterboard

  • Computers do it, phones do it, even educated home safety alarms do it. They do it, they potentially chirp annoyingly.

However, the odds on someone trying to make you insane are shortening dramatically.

I'm convinced it's the ceiling fan in the bathroom. It's where the sound appears to be coming from but I can't for the life of me think why. There is no battery in it. There is no noticeable reason for it stopping or starting. Bit it's driving me Fucking insane. If it wasn't such a regular patter I think I could ignore it. But I'm now tuned into every 32 seconds.

I appreciate there are far far worse problems to have!

Sounds like you need to get back in the Loft......and position yourself over that ceiling fan?

When I did that before I could hear the beep above the fan but it was quieter. The sound had to travel through the ducting to reach me, so I think it's the unit itself. If I know how to disconnect the fucker I would do.

I have not read every page.

Do you have a modern consumer unit/fuse box?
I think my kitchen fan has it's own switch.

Yes bout it's on the same circuit as the upstairs lights i think. Plus, when I turned off the mains it did carry on beeping for a bit. I wonder if there is a battery in there.....

I have assumed you mean extractor fan - not "ceiling fan".

Hunter Ceiling  Fans have a battery.

Yes extractor fan. Its ceiling mounted. It has a switch outside the bathroom.

It's a Greenwood airvac.  Doesnt look like they make my model anymore.

Google reveals nothing about extractor fans which contain a battery.

What a freaking nightmare for you.
You may need to take someone else in the loft with you to ponder the direction of the sound.
Like others....I am thinking old smoke detector (or device to deter mice)  that has fallen under the loft insulation. Somewhere above the ceiling fan.
Or an old Carbon Monoxide detector.
I have a neighbour with the Boiler in the loft. Yes, I said Boiler.
