Bagged a mint condition Blackstar HT-40 combo for only £210. Think that's a bargain. Collecting the bad boy in the morning. Chuffed :)

I've just bought it home. It appears that the amp is in fact transgender. Who'd have thought.

  • Oh well. Amps gonna be no good to me. OD channel sounds like a bloody wasp nest. Shite.

Put an eq in the loop! gives you much better control than the onboard eq
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

  • Wasp nest? That's odd. Blackstar amps are not fizzy, middy and compressed perhaps, but definitely not fizzy or buzzy...

Probably compressed more than fizzy but I'm not used to that and sounds crap to my ears.

Not quite but certainly I can't work with tone that bad. The clean was fine but the od just way to coarse.

May be worth changing the preamp valves to something less gainy, I've had a few blackstars and found they are much too heavy too quickly on the OD side.

ICBM told me to do that but I never did, i think he recommended 12at7's? could be wrong though, check first.

Is it a digital OD?  If not, try lower (or higher) output pre tubes.

Really not sure if it's digital or not.

@ICBM can you shed any light on this at all?

Any help much appreciated before I move it on.

It's the reverb that's digital, so changing the preamp valves should give you some variations.  They are ECC83s so you can use them in most amps if you don't like them.

The od sounds pretty good in the mix in the attached.  The second video seems to showcase the od better than the first one.
