Best Xmas Song?

What's Hot
doogz84doogz84 Frets: 206
Kinda surprised this isn't a thing, maybe I've missed it.

Any advance on Greg Lake - I Believe in Father Christmas, or does everyone agree with me?  ;)

Louis Armstrong - 'Zat You Santa Claus is up there too.

The muso's choice is probably Greg Lake or something like The Waitresses' Christmas Wrapping, but for anyone rational it's clearly Mariah or Slade or the Fairytale of New York.

Greg no question, followed by pogues, quite like chris de burgh (only song of his I like!) plus wizzard's a great tune.

I had the morning off on Wednesday, the sum total of my morning was learning Walking in the Air!

The correct answer is, of course, "Christmas Song" by Medicine.

Although I do like a bit of Mark Kozelek at Christmas as well.

  • I think normally we have a most hated Christmas song Discussion so I guess this is progress!

In terms of what's most bearable on the radio probably Stop the Cavalry, otherwise I'll nominate this:

    Slade.

Fairytale Of New York is my personal favourite though.

I'll also nominate this as the best of the modern ones you might not think have been played to death yet - don't laugh, it's a brilliantly written song and she sings it perfectly. Leona Lewis...

Chris de Burgh. I’ve always felt there’s a proper element of a carol in the way it sounds.

The Slade song is more than decent, but I heard it every year for the 45 years that it has existed.

There are lots that I like, Fairytale Of New York isn't one of them, though I don't hate it.

Top 10, in no particular order:

All I Want For Christmas Is You (Mariah Carey)
    Wombling Merry Christmas (The Wombles)
Land Of Make Believe (Bucks Fizz)
Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) (Darlene Love)
    Christmas Wrapping (The Waitresses)
I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday (Wizzard)
    2000 Miles (Pretenders)
    Merry Xmas Everybody (Slade)
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (Springsteen)
Hey Santa Claus (Kevin Bloody Wilson)
It'll Be Lonely This Christmas (Mud)
