Had to drink Tesco cheap coffee for ages on site. Do that for a few weeks and then try a fresh jar of Nescafé original - luxury.

Lidl’s Columbian 100% Arabica is my favourite instant.

I quite like Illy instant. 

Heaped spoonful and a tiny amount of water makes quite a nice espresso.

We use Percol but nothing instant tastes much good, unless you drown it with milk.

Percol Americana or decaff is drinkable when I use other caffeine sources, Used to drink Dowe Egbert too which was fine, nice caramel flavours when had with milk... but once I changed to drinking coffee black the goalposts changed too

I don't dislike the Waitrose decaf. I assume their full-caf tastes similarly reasonable.

As @TheBlueWolf says, the only alternative to real coffee is tea. Just as quick and easy as instant coffee but not disgusting.
If you really have to have a quick cup of coffee, try an iced coffee using Camp Chicory Essence.

Whenever I've bought instant coffee it sits on the shelf unused where over time it turns into a dark brown lump that looks like a turd but has a brick-like consistency.

Aldi do the best instant decaf.

Douwe Egbert's dark roast, or whatever the marketing people have called it these days is the best I've found that you can get in decent size jars at a sensible price.

CostCo do big jars of it far cheaper than the usual suspect supermarkets.

How about just drink the stuff rather than being a coffee snob? Just accept it's peasant coffee and swill it down.

I'm none to keen on cheap crap booze but if someone offers me the stuff I'll be drinking it like a trooper!

I don't understand why instant coffee is so nasty. I can only assume they use the cheapest, nastiest, most overcooked beans to make it. I wonder what it would be like with artisan beans hand roasted to taste.

Most ground coffee from the supermarket isn't much better...

The nicest instant I've had is the azera espresso. It's fine with milk and a dash of sugar
