What have you learned in 2018?

What's Hot

Before we get into New Year resolutions I thought it would be interesting to take stock of what we’ve each learned this year.

Playing wise I’ve learned that I don’t practice enough. That’s not practicing new techniques, but keeping the existing ones going. In recent years I’ve cut back on playing at home to reduce wear and tear and on my hands. It’s now showing in my playing, which is less fluid than I’d like.

What have you learned?

I found that given enough practice I can play things I thought I couldn't...

  • That while the stupidity of some people apparently knows no bounds, others may have more wisdom than you first give them credit for.
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

  • Gin is actually pretty nice.

Guitar wise, dink enough gin and you sound ace  ;)

Guitar wise - no matter how bad you think you are you know enough to impress most people, also girls that get turned on by guitar players still exist hushed

Outside of the guitar world I guess you never know everything, life still surprises you no matter how old you are or how much you think you know.

I've been a huge fan of Little Feat since I was a kid in the 70s and this year I finally learned one of their songs, Dixie Chicken.

You might have got there earlier, had you consulted the rock and roll doctor....

To not let people screw you over or treat you like crap. Especially by people who know less than you or who are morally wrong.

Basically standing up for myself regardless of outcome.

I’ve learned that no matter how hard things can get when becoming self employed there is always a way through it. I kind of knew this from my last job but the buck didn’t stop with me back then... it does now though.

Ive also learned that time is precious and valuable. While I’ve seen a lot more of my children since leaving my last job I haven’t spent as much time with them as I want. Next year, I’ll have a helping hand in the workshop to allow me to relax a little and spend more time with them.

My guitar playing is non existent but I’m aiming to change that once I get my new plans in place.

That buying things I don't really need with money I don't yet have is never a good idea.

That middle age has definitely caught up with me and wearing glasses is going to feature far more in 2019 than it has until now.

That any thought that we were moving inexorably towards a more tolerant, caring society has proved to be wrong, with countries all around the world competing to be considered the finest example of Man's inhumanity to Man.

A little bravery can open doors you never knew existed.

Love, on a level I never knew existed.  A beautiful and scary thing.
