Guitar based- an entire song played simply but competently will please more people than a solo, regardless of how “good” the solo is. 

Life based- a “permanent” job is only permanent if you decide to stick at it permanently.

Guitarwise... that playing in bands outside of your normal musical genre can be musically really rewarding.

A lot of songs for my old covers band, where I was drummist.
Some jazz standards on guitar.
Playing a lot of piano in the latter half of the year and further exploring the modular synth thing.

A good year.

I've hit theory this year and gone back to basics to fix techniques that have been sloppy for years.  

Also learnt that I need to change jobs as it turns out I'm completly miserable in my current one and I'm looking forward to burning some bridges in the new year

I don't play much guitar these days as I've got arthritis. So I need to be more creative in other ways.

I've learnt a bunch of theory though and I'm into electronic music now. 

Writing horror fiction is still an ongoing journey *but* I get a warped kick out of it.

Getting reflective for a moment, 2018 has been interesting. 

I got stuck in to studying again and the process has reminded me of physical training where it's hard, and you really want to quit, but you also want to keep on -- you want to give up then you think, but I really want to understand this shit! 

It has also been the year where I've come to understand how important it is not to judge people.  Inevitably you do find yourself judging but I've now pretty much always got the background idea that while I might not have made the choices they made I can still accept them and the fact that they did make certain choices.
