I've been doing a bit of market research and was hoping you guys would respond. This is all about the needs of guitarists, specifically their need for drums.

I know the questions are the best, and I know they're not entirely free from confirmation bias, but this would give me some idea of where people's heads are at when it comes to this stuff.

If you can spare 5minutes to give me some answers and feedback, that would be much appreciated!

Bye!

Unfortunately I can't give any useful answers because I don't compose drums even on songs I've written, I let a drummer do that... usually they're much better at it :). A very long time ago I used to sometimes use hardware drum machines, but I was never great at programming them to sound natural. I haven't owned one since the Alesis SR16, which probably dates me :).

  • Done, although I might be a bit of an anomaly as I may use software to start with for a basis / time keeping drum track, but ultimately I prefer to record my own drums after and replace the track.

    Done.

The question on what type of loops would be better if you could choose multiple options.
I also often compose guitar and bass riffs based on drum beats rather than the other way around. That's quite common in groove based music.

    What Legionreturns and Monquixote said.

It is, generally, easier to hang a riff or a chord progression over the rhythmic framework than to play block chords and try to enliven them afterwards with drum and percussion.

With some present day DAW software, it is possible to sketch ideas to a repetitive artificial intelligence generated drumming pattern then, afterwards, have the A.I. algorithm rejig the drum part to more closely follow the feel of the instrument parts.

It is also possible to perform manual MIDI Note Number edits to such drum parts. I find that it helps to have a pair of drumsticks to check that the fills I want to program are physically playable.
    Be seeing you.
