Maybe the singer had stolen the bloke’s wife, called Caroline, and he was taking the piss with that song.

Felt sorry for the chap crushing his own Gibson Hummingbird, but the choice of attack was strangely amusing - Hopefully it didn't hurt anything other than his pride. I guess it is hard to tolerate Neil Diamond at times.

Clearly there's a backstory, beyond an utterly reasonable hatred of that song. I assume someone slept with someone's girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/sister/mum, but who knows?!

From the Liverpool Echo:

A bearded middle-aged man walks across the front of the stage while Jay is performing, before suddenly appearing at the side of the stage.

The man, wearing jeans and a jumper, then picked Jay up by his feet and tips him upside down, before dropping him on the floor in the bizarre clip.

He then kicked Jay, while he was lying on the floor, before running off.

Jay then ran after him and the video ended.

The video is being widely shared on social media - with Jay writing about the incident on his Facebook page.

He said: "So I'm finally a celeb on social media its kinda funny what happened it happened so fast the f****r could have had a knife and I would have never felt it.

"Thank God he didn't cheers to all my "mates" who shared it I'm OK just saw red so I gave him a hiding knuckles killing me now.

"The p***k was crying like a baby apologizing to me. Moral of story be nice to one and other. Happy New Year."

Why? We've had a few random attacks over the years from drunks who have no idea who we are. 
Guys just come up to our 4'11" female singer and just scream at her mid song, inches from her face, or wave their dicks at her, or try to pick a fight with us. I've had to panel some dickhead or other three times in the last couple of years, the last just a month ago.
