Your Album Of The Year (2018)

What's Hot

OK Chaps.
What is your album of the year for 2018?
One choice only and if possible post an example of it.

Reasons why too.

For me it is Tom Misch's album 'Geography'.
It's simple, funky and soulful. His guitar playing just works for me. Lovely clean tones, slow phrasing with exceptional choice of notes. He's also a fine singer in a low-key crooner sort of way.
It also helps that he has a shit-hot band behind him.

So what's yours?

The end of the f***ing world - Graham Coxon

Awesome soundtrack album to a fantastic show. Here's Bus Stop

  • Richard Thompson’s Thirteen Rivers is hard work on the first few listens - but probably the best thing he’s done in 25 years. That he’s not far from his 70th birthday makes it even more remarkable....

I’ve seen him live twice this year - he was outstanding on both occasions.

  • Year of the Tiger by Myles Kennedy. The whole album is basically about his dad who refused medical treatment due to his religion and died as a result. It's personal, powerful, musically divergent from his Alter Bridge and Slash stuff, and also great!

I'm just a Maserati in a world of Kias.

Ben Howard Noonday Dream.  Stuff like the below almost almost blurs the boundaries between songwriting and instrumental soundscapery.

    Creye

Saw these guys at Rockingham. Absolutely fucking AMAZING album. Proper melodic rock with fantastic usage of synths and harmonies.

My intention this year is to listen to as many newer bands as possible. If Creye keep this up then they’re onto a winner.

There's been a few contenders for me but at the eleventh hour, Jeff Tweedy nicked it with 'Warm'.

Because it's better than Now 99 and Now 100.

  • Le Kov by Gwenno Saunders. Psychadelic, krautrocky pop. Sung beautifully in Cornish. Her husband Rhys is an inventive guitarist who’s trippy modulated lines are perfect for the tunes. Great album and brilliant live.

    Richard Thompson - Thirteen Rivers
This appears to be the only 2018 release that I purchased during the year. Everything else has been remastered/expanded re-issued back catalogue.

    Sleep - The Sciences

No particular reason except that it is very very good... I didn't buy much else (new) in 2018 except the new albums from Earthless, Black Moth and Khemmis, all of which I found OK but a little disappointing.

This is my AOTY as well.

The Ocean's 'Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic' is pretty awesome as well.

The album I listened to most this year was 2017's 'Emperor of Sand' by Mastodon though.
    It is absolutely incredible.
