The Jazzmaster sale was a total wrench, but I've just ordered the number 1 on my want list. Go big or go home etc etc. 

So now i'm impatiently waiting for the postman to bring me a Deckards Dream and a Roli Seaboard Block. To say I'm excited would be an understatement.

yeah, I reckon I'll get round to using those things at some point - main purpose will be to connect directly to the Deckards in the first instance

I'm not sure about the Roli stuff- every time I play one it feels like sticking my fingers into an octopus' vagina.
Not that I know what that is like...

Hahaha! I don’t think it’ll be an every time usage thing... but I wanted to be able to have MPE for wobbly pads and the like

I has been expensive but I do not regret it.
You can do things that are simply not possible any other way.

I played some of the Roli stuff and it was incredible! Congrats.

(Well, I say ‘played’.... i bashed it like my fingers were sellotaped together...)

hahaha! ta. The Deckards was the one that was always at the top of my list. When the Jazzmaster went, I had to find a way to make it work. The Roli will just mean I can get the most out of it

Fearful of the learning curve, but it’ll do so much. The plan is for it to sequence the Deckards, Prophet 6 and Odyssey for live, whilst having each of their audio routed back into it to process, whilst also simultaneously playing samples and handling the full arrangement of our songs. Might even do some live looping too.

I have three bits of advice.

First is set up your mixer with anything you might like to route to it on the inputs and then have either record bus/Alt/FX send going to the input of the Octatrack.
That way you can route anything you want to the OT at the press of a button.
It also allows you to send multiple things to it at once.

I tried doing it with a patchbay and it was ok, but a mixer is better, even a little desktop one.

On my mixer I have a bus sending to A/B inputs and and I can patch things not connected to that mixer into the C/D inputs.

Second, have two copies of the manual open when you are learning it.
One for going through methodically and the second for jumping around when the manual says 'refer to page X for function Y'.
That way you won't lose your place.
You really need to approach this methodically, it is unlike any other piece of gear you've ever owned.

Third is to not buy anything else for a while.
OT is a complex beast and you really need to dig down into it.
I bought mine and then had 2 months in temporary accommodation whilst the studio stuff was making its way here.
It was somewhat of a blessing because I mostly concentrated on learning it.
