Mic’ing a cab without mic stand question.

I have a sennheiser E606 but don’t have a spare stand to use with it.

Is it acceptable to dangle it from the top of the amp and gaffer it to the speaker cloth?

That's normal use for them when used live. I'd let it dangle and gaffer the cable on the cab edge so you can angle it off axis if need be.

Just wrap the cable through the amp's top handle, if it has one.

Thanks chaps. Yes amp has a top handle so i’ll dangle it through there.

Just watch out the when it hangs, it can’t twist around - an extra strip of gaffa is sometimes handy to keep it in place if the cable has a mind of its own.

In extremis, get a cardboard box, a wide, narrow one is best. Cut holes in the two narrow sides and thread the mic through.

Chuck books or rcks in for ballast.

The "dangle from the handle and gaffer it" technique worked fine.

I've played the same venue before and it's a bit of a funny shape pub, so it was much better having my guitar coming from the PA as well.

Worth getting a cab gooseneck for next time, usually @£30-40

Generally* not worth the bother with an e606 (or e609, or e906, or any of the Sennheiser side-address mics) - they hang perfectly well down the front of the cab.

    * unless the cab has a metal grille, or if you want some sort of specific mic placement.
