Why?

What's Hot

Are the top horns on SGs and double-cut Juniors and Specials larger than the bottom ones?

Just because, or for a specific reason?

Just the design is all, same as a strat. I think they'd look pretty poor with the same size horns.

Because they look much better like that - compare an LP Junior to a Gordon Smith double cut.

Those 50's designers knew what they were doing with their french curves and pen and paper

I'll admit that my OCD side does twitch slightly at those shapes. Slightly.

How about the Vintage (definitely NOT a) copy model?

One boob is always bigger than the other, symmetry isn't always attractive.

I thought it’s longer for better balance if you put a strap pin there?

The further back the strap pin the more neck heavy the guitar becomes...

  • I'm obviously out of step here. I prefer symmetric bodies / mirrored about center line such as the ES-335 & ES-339 shapes.

In fact it was only about 4 years ago that I realised that SGs were offset. It put me off slightly.

The new Epi LP DC Pro (not available yet) is slightly asymmetrical too.

I sometimes think, therefore I am intermittent

And one testicle hangs lower than the other. Asymmetry isn't always attractive either.

    To make them look right.

If you look at a symmetrical double-cut when it's held in the playing position, the lower horn always looks larger - it's an optical illusion, but it looks quite odd. Making the upper horn longer fixes that.

Do they make the upper horn longer, or lower horn shorter ?  ;)

  • With my warped view in general, seeing these guitars with different size horns came across as "comforting", like, this is my world, so yeah.  I'm pretty sure the music had something to do with it...I think.

I've always thought that the lower horn on a 335 is longer... that must be because of this
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/
