Re-profiling a Warwick bass neck.

I've just bought a 2nd Warwick bass and the neck profile isn't quite right for me.

I'm thinking about getting it modified to match my other one.

Any advice?

I’ve had warwicks with a huge nec and with a much slimmer neck - could it be easier to find a similar model with a more comfortable neck that suits you better?

It would need to be a screwed-on neck.

    What model do you have?
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

    A Corvette Proline 5-string ('93) and a Corvette Standard 5-string ('05).

It's the darker neck which is the one I'd like to have the work done on.

Jon Shuker will do it. Top quality work too

Ah yes - that might be a good option!

Is that two Korean instruments or one Korean and the other German?

From those years they’d both be German - non-German models only got the 2-piece bridge from about 2010 onwards.

I think the original ProLine (not Pro Series) were all German and only produced for a couple or so years before being rebranded the Standard.

I think the '05 Standard is also German; the control panel cover says Made In Germany and the tuners say Germany, but I don't know if they used the same part on the Korean ones.

The Warwick serial number hasn't got the '93 (K-000435-93) on it and of the '05 one it says

    Serial number:
    F 115639-05
    Article number:
    1245080000CZASHOWW
    produced:
    01.12.2017
    Description:
CORVETTE ST 5 Natural OF CHROM MEC Act ActEl ASH Fretted

I might email Warwick to get the details.

Makes sense. My Corvette is a Standard or, more precisely, an STD.

    Neither do I.

I cannot help wondering whether the ovangkol/wenge neck is chunkier out of necessity. Perhaps, the timbers do not resist string pull as well as rock maple.

Well, we're hardly the Warwick cognoscienti, are we! :)

I hadn't considered that for the neck, but it's not massively chunkier, more just a feel thing.

I’m sure it’s not that. My 2008 thumb has a massive ovangkol neck, but I had a 2010 corvette that had a really slim ovangkol neck. And my first Warwick was a 97 Fortress that had a thick maple neck.  hey just changed the profile from year to year according to taste.
