Yes, that's dreadful. I've got the album and there's actually some very good stuff on it, but that track really spikes it.

Trevor Horn though - often a genius, but it remains to be seen what his new 'reinventing the 80s' album is like... I've heard the Robbie Williams cover of Everybody Wants To Rule The World from it, and although not quite as bad it's still pretty poor.
Oh I heard Blue Monday off the Trevor Horn album. Just a cheesy rework, I didn't like it.

Stretching ‘A-List’, but perhaps the most cringingly bad, ill-advised cover in the history of ever.

Take That doing ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’.

Amy Winehouse doing Valerie - it's a man's song to a woman. She sings it with no reference to that or apparently any feeling for the song at all. It may be Mark Ronson's fault though, to be fair.
The terrible tragedy of Amy Winehouse, that after Back to Black conquered the world everyone expected a stunning third album, but she just drank herself to death and did the odd cover version in the meantime.

Mark Ronson's whole covers album "Version" there is very nicely done, but it's more an experiment in production, none of the covers come close to bettering the original.

The documentary "Amy" is required viewing for even the most casual fan (unless you are her Dad, he does not come out of it well).

Sugarbabes Vs Girls Aloud covering Walk This Way springs to mind. (Though "A list" might be stretching it a bit).
It was a charity single for Comic Relief... A song that's about a boy losing his virginity as a children's charity single? That's before you even get to listening to it.

    ...

Apparently they claimed not to know what it was about!
"Backstroke lover always hidin' 'neath the cover
'Till I talked to my daddy he say
He said, you ain't seen noting
'Till you're down on a muffin
Then you're sure to be a-changin' your ways"
I wouldn't criticise it too much, that Amele who was in the Sugababes back then (for a bit) is the type to have you killed, allegedly.

Edit:  That's a JOKE, should make that clear, she has had some unsavoury associations though.

  • What about Sam Smith's cover of I Won't Back Down by Tom Petty?

On a more literal note, I'll offer up Bowie and Jagger doing Dancing in the Street

Certainly comfortably one of the worst videos ever made.

A lot of gay sex backstage on that set...

Absolutely A-list - they've probably sold more records than most of the other artists mentioned here put together.

I actually think it was a brave attempt and quite good, given that they're not really known for being instrumental musicians. (Assuming that what you hear is actually them playing, of course... I'm not convinced.)

    That's definitely less good though...

I love that! Probably the thing that most captures the spirit of Live Aid for me, even though it obviously wasn't actually part of the concert.

A complete travesty or vast improvement on the original.

    That is the original!

(I don't care that it was recorded after Oasis, it'll always be the original for me.)

Add to that their horrific cover of Thin Lizzy's version of 'Whisky in the Jar', none more shitter....
I'm liking it (video does help). I'm very quickly developing an aversion to the Lizzy version tho. Just drags on for bloody ever. FFS get on with it lads.

My contribution (since someone else nabbed Crow/Sweet Child) is Madonna doing American Pie.
