New M1 Day.

What's Hot
Actually quite an old M1 day.
This was being thrown out so I rescued it from someone who 'didn't want to get it fixed'.

2 squirts of some contact cleaner and it is back to being tiptop.

She is a heavy old girl.

If you've now got a full set of functioning buttons and none of the keys are slow to return to rest, you've beaten The Old Korg Curse! :)

If I had the space I'd have one of these, a d50 and a dx7 as part of a "teenage aspiration" collection.

I'm doing something similar- although I have a few more on the shopping list.
I've got rid of the last of my rack synths today (final JV1080 went) and just concentrating on 80's, 90's keyboard synths for a bit, as well as Eurorack.

Loved these back in the day!

Nice one and I loved the aggressiveness of the Casio CZ-1

Well, since you asked- some of it is just because I always wanted it, some is because I've had them before and miss them, some are just because they are cheap:

    Korg: M1, Wavestation, Mono/Poly, Polysix, Poly 800, Trinity, Z1

    Roland: D50, JP8000, all the Jupiters, JX8P, W30, Alpha Juno, V-Synth
Don't want Juno 6/60/106- I've had them all in the past and don't want to pay vintage money.

Yamaha: DX7 (and most of the other DX keyboards), SY99,

    Ensoniq: Fizmo, TS10, ASR10

    E-Mu: Emulators or E-Max.

    Akai: AX60/80.

    Kurzweil: K2500.

    Nord: Wave, Modular

    Kawai/Teisco:  60F, 110F, 100F, 100P, SX-210, SX-240, and SX-400, K1/3/4/5, K5000

Buchla: Easel, 100/200/300/500/700- they are all stupid money now though so unlikely- also Buchla are starting to do Eurorack modules.

    Novation: Supernova II

    Casio: FZ1, CZ

    Crumar: Spirit, Bit One,

    Hartmann: Neuron

    Elektron: Sidstation, Monomachine, Machinedrum

    Waldorf: Wave, Microwave, Q

    Quasimidi: Raven, Sirius,

    Oberheim: OBX, OB1, Matrix 6.

I don't anticipate owning all of them... well not at the same time.

That's a fair old list. Some old stuff I'd like to have a mess around with but not bother owning would include:

Poly 800 - there used to be one in a music shop I used to go in, and a jx10 for the same reason.

Ensoniq mirage - did play one a couple of times, but reckon it would seem pretty shit now. I'd probably have an esq1 if I had my imaginary collection though.

Emulator II - don't think I've seen one in the flesh, but very aspirational for me at the time

Alpha Juno 2 and jx3p as those were the 2 synths we had at school - don't remember enjoying either very much though

I still have a couple of the lower value items on your list from back in the day - a K1 and a dx100

I got to play with a lot of them when I worked in a few music shops.
I was never interested in the usual 303/808/909's as they were what everyone wanted.

Old samplers are hilarious now, when you think about what you had to do to get a sample played- loading from SCSI drives into memory. Kids today don't know what we had to go through.

These synths have to be in good condition or super cheap.

Case in point: I bought a K2000 off one of the guys at SSL for £100. (!)
They keys were a bit dodgy, it was low in output.
    Flipped it for £120.
Won't be buying another K2000- they are impossible to keep maintained.

  • Always wanted a dx7,  a Jupiter 8 and an obx.

There are 2 synths I've had before I'd quite like back as well.  A wavestation and a jd800.

I wouldn't say no to an integra7 module at the right pricec either. And possibly a nord electro 2 rack.

    A wavestation and a jd800.
The KORG Legacy WS-1 plug-in is worthy of your attention.

The JD-990 and an SR-JV80-04 Vintage Synth expansion board combination makes for a mighty digital synthesizer

Wow, an M1. I was blown away with them when they came out. I remember going to the old Music fair in London (Brilliant, massive shows), and I noodled around with one for ages, every sound was so inspiring. The only thin I had against them was the number of keys.

I use the classic M1 sounds from the Korg Legacy VST set. No sticky toffee pudings involved!
