Original tube testers like Avo have become very collectible so prices for them are sky high. Even the Orange tester is crazy money  for a simple yes/no device so this could be a good solution.

Friend of mine bought one a while back.  Very nice project.  Fair amount of work still to do in boxing it with whatever solution of electrode to base pin selection you want. I was lucky enough to buy an Avo CT160 many years ago for £25, which was the going rate at the time.  If I didn't have that I reckon I'd build one of these.
