Nearly at the top of KoT waiting list, what options should I get?

What's Hot

So I’m very nearly at the top of the King of Tone waiting list. What options should I go for, oh fretboard gurus?

I’ll probably go for normal one side and high gain the other, although I’m quite tempted to get two normal sides and use one for boost and one for OD, as I don’t play high gain stuff really. But then I guess that might make resale more tricky, if I should decide to move it on at any stage. I use a VL psu so don’t really need the power out option but it might be useful sometime I guess...

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on the KoT options.

  • I went for High Gain simply because the re-sale seems easier.

But like you, Id normally go for normal on both sides.

You can always get the external toggle switches.

    I found them useful.

‘High gain’ isn’t really high gain as we generally think of it. It’s more like the normal gain plus another quarter turn on the pot. I’d go high gain red side with the external switch and the buffer (which is excellent).

As Simon said there isn’t a huge difference between the normal and high gain option so maybe add that on one side.    Whether you want the buffer, external switch and extra sockets is down to whether you’ll use them, personally I’ve never bothered but I can see how they might be useful.

Black or white with gold type would be my choice but agree, not purple

  • You could do what I did and give your spot away.

It's silly money for what it is
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Does it matter which side does what when you can change them with the DIP switches?

No, but having ‘high gain’ on a side makes a difference (see what Simon said above).

Do you mean silly money to buy in the first place, or silly money that they go for second hand? I don’t really understand why you would give your spot away, when they’re so hard to come by, unless you mean sell your spot?  ;)

Mmm that is a lot. Partly explains why they can go for £400 second hand I guess.
