H9 and 4CM routing

Has anyone rigged their Eventide H9 up for a 4CM? All my pedals go through my Boss ES 5 switcher. From there it goes into the H9 which I mainly use for Reverbs/Delays etc. Then onto the amp. How does one go about setting up a 4CM with my set up? Obviously I don't want to have any distortions/ODs going through the H9 and into the amps FX loop. Would it, if I tried to make a 4CM with my set up?

Sorry if I'm sounding a bit naive .... it wouldn't be the first time

    Yeh man set the h9 to pre and post mode route pre to one of the es loops the post can go straight to anp fx loop and use midi to control it - saves a loop - you need to use both ins and outs on the pedal one is for pre one post

    Thanks but I didn’t want to use an ES loop as I don’t have any available. H9 is last in the chain and goes straight to the amp from there.

    Can’t you just go from the Es to the amp and the h9 in the amp loop and control it via midi.

    This ^^^

    Unless you want to use any H9 effects in front of the amp, just connect it directly to the fx loop of the amp and control MIDI through the ES

    Yes I do that at the moment. This is where my naivety maybe showing, would my dirty signal I.e. distortion/ods etc go into the fx loop too if I plug in the H9 to the amps fx loop when they are in the chain @John_P ;

    If I did this would it only be the delays that wil go into the fx loop. Not the OD that I may have switched on in a patch etc? Hope I’m making my concerns clear :(

  • I’m thinking I’d have to come out of the ES5 and straight to the amp. But rig up the 4CM with the H9 and control it with MIDI is that the solution I’ve been looking for?

    David,  Unless you want to use the H9 for the Crushstaion, Compressor etc algorithms, the whole 4CM pre/post thing is just adding extra complexity. Plus the H9 can do lots of things but only one at a time, so you lose the delay/reverb.

    Ill give you a call and talk it through!

    Thanks. Literally just for Delays. So probably not worth the hassle? I have another H9 for modulation etc which is in one of the ES 5 loops

  • In which case, 4CM is not really a concept you'll be using with the H9. Its a simple connection to the fx loop for the H9 only. All your drives etc which are in the ES go into the front of the amp. The H9 is only in the signal chain by virtue of the fact that its in the loop. No other connectivity to it is required, (other than the MIDI cable).

    That’s what I want. I’ll give both ways ago :) Thanks Guys

    Looks like your sorted but i was gonna say why not go from the es5 output into the pre section of the h9 then to the amp if you dont want to use a loop & post section to amp fx loop and still control everything with the midi from es5 This way you can still choose to use H9 fx pre amp drive as well if you wanted without using a loop
