    Boss OD 2.
Others have come and gone but that's never left my board. I've even got a spare just in case.
Pork Loin comes a close second.

  • Digitech Hardwire SC-2 Valve Distortion.

Going to be rather miffed if it ever breaks. Though it is built like a tank. Surprised Digitech stopped making the Hardwire pedals because they are stunningly good for the price.

The ‘Natural Overdrive’ mode on the Boss ME-50 - really.

If it has to be a single pedal then the Boss DF-2.

  • Digitech Bad Monkey - gain rolled all the way off, bass and treble both maxed. Haven't gigged or recorded without it for the last decade or more.

Honourable mention to the Lovepedal Les Lius, especially on 'Twin Mode'  - jangly and crunchy.

  • Probably the Skreddy Screwdriver Deluxe clone I built.

...meaning the real thing is likely even better.

all very much depends on what amp it goes into and what guitar combination
Les Paul into Marshall type with a Rangemaster style ,old school ,boring treble boost in the middle is a Weapon of Mass Destruction..........a truly awesome sound

Yep a germanium treble booster into an OD or cooking amp is amazing.

Don't be so sure. ;-) Probably just marginally different. I've built quite a few different clones and some are pretty close to the originals. When it comes to pedals, it's either a useful sound or not a useful sound.
