Actually, are you familiar with Allan Holdsworth?

Yes I agree, Holdsworth technically, is in a league of his own. Unique chords and solos.

IMO Jan Akkerman is capable of playing things you don't expect him to; any of the first 4 Focus albums or the Live Rainbow album would be worth a listen.
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

Another vote for Akkerman - I'd also add some left field guys like Eivend Aarsted, Michael Brook, Sonny Sharrock, Jean Paul Bourelly, Marc Ribot, Nels Cline, Leo Abrahams and Frank Zappa.

I could be wrong but doesn't he use really soft picks? I'm sure I remember an article where he said that he hated that percussive attack from a pick.

heard this a few months ago and likewise loved it. More than anything else I've heard since by him though.

It is mate. I'd probably enjoy it a wee bit more if he trimmed that string though!

    :-)
