How about a bit of mindless shredding?

Jeez...I'd sooner just play 2 notes that had some meaning and context than that cr*p. :(

I'll stick with my limited "playing like I'm falling downstairs" technique, thanks! :)

Huge kudos to the O.P for posting Jerry. I remember that programme being broadcast in 1987 when I was 15, I'd just started playing Guitar and that guy blew my mind, even though "that" music, at the time, "wasn't my bag".

So, back to my example, it might be predictable, but here it is.

This funky Mofo has got it all, he has played session on so many recordings, as a Rhythm player, going back 30 years or more, and he can produce wonderful solo work like this.

    He Rules (kind of)

    :)
Oh yes @Bellycaster, that sort of groove-playing is exactly up my street. Great stuff.

    Indeed @equalsql

He is enormously gifted, plays as smooth as silk.

Joe Pass, probably the best solo improvising guitarist ever.

    @CACOFONIX

Thanks for that, I didn't know that. I thought he just had incredible intonation! :D
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

This is just awesome, each time he goes around it just gets better, his right hand technique with fingers etc is out of this world.

My respect for John Mayer grows by the day, the pop stuff I can do without but the dude can play.

    Fantastic playing that @Lev

I've got huge respect for anyone who can play fingerstyle well, something I've never even tried to master.

    This is pretty special

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

For tapping I really like Jake Morely.  He writes really nice songs and does the whole tapping thing at the same time.  I've no idea how he isn't more popular, I saw him live and was massively impressed by his acoustic set.

    Song starts about 40 seconds

This song is really nice too.
