A decent capo?

What's Hot

Not usually a capo user but I've come across something I need to use one on one.

I dread marking any of my guitar necks

What are your suggestions?

Kyser for my acoustic every time.

  • Being a bit of a traditionalist I use Shubb capos. They’re not as easy to fit quickly as some of the modern, ( and often more expensive), models but they do the job and I’ve never had one mark the neck.

I use G7th, which are one of the popular ones.  I've been using it on my Martin with a nitro finish neck for years and it hasn't caused any marking if you are worried about that.

I know Kyser also have a good reputation.

Steer clear of Shubb.  I sold all my Shubbs on Feebay when I got a G7th.  Unless you adjust the thumbwheel very carefully on a Shubb, you will get tuning problems.  The G7th sounds far more in tune than my Shubbs used to.

  • I like G7th for electric and Shubb for acoustic. Never had any issues with either

  • The G7th is the only capo I've tried that doesn't force me to tweak the tuning once it's on. I've stuck one on mid-song before and checked the tuning afterwards to find it's absolutely dead on.

G7th for me. They are quick and simple to use, don't need too much pressure, affecting the tuning and are easy to remove.

I've to Shubbs, Kysers, a Planet Waves NS Pro, but always end up using the G7th.

    Kyser. No issues, ever.

Another vote for Kyser. I use them on fairly valuable guitars including my Atkin OM Retrospective without any harm to them at all. The Shubb capo is a faff. Kyser is so easy to use.

    G7th
Works perfectly and I like being able to choose how much pressure it applies.

I only use it on electric, I don't play acoustic at all.

  • I use the Kyser quick change on the electric and the Dunlop trigger for acoustic. Served me well for many years.

    Thanks for the recommendations.

Looks like a G7th will be in my future, pretty impressive.

    Thanks again.

There’s a new G7th coming out, has better spread of the pressure across the neck, for when neck radius doesn’t match capo radius. So current stock should be sold off cheaper. Win win!
